Bursa Malaysia Turns Lower At Mid-morning
KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia turned lower at mid-morning, weighed down by selling pressure in selected heavyweights, mainly in the financial services and consumer products and services counters.
At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid by 4.90 points to 1,735.32 from last Friday's close of 1,740.22. The index opened 1.72 points higher at 1,741.94.
The broader market was negative with losers leading gainers 728 to 309, while 429 counters were unchanged, 1,248 untraded and 32 suspended.
Turnover amounted to 1.44 billion shares valued at RM875.91 million.
Among heavyweights, CIMB gave up nine sen to RM7.79, Nestle declined RM3.32 to RM96.88 and Public Bank slipped four sen to RM4.87, while Petronas Chemicals was 21 sen higher at RM5.80 and Tenaga Nasional put on eight sen to RM14.62.
As for the most active counters, GIIB and Advance Synergy gained one sen each to 30 sen and 8.5 sen, respectively, and Top Glove improved 2.5 sen to 80.5 sen, while AirAsia X decreased three sen to RM1.12, and Zetrix AI eased 1.0 sen to 83.5 sen.
Of the top gainers, Allianz Malaysia advanced 24 sen to RM21.72, Westports rose 19 sen to RM6, Tong Herr Resources gained 15 sen to RM1.77, Vitroz widened eight sen to RM6.07, and Multi-Usage perked 7.5 sen to 47 sen.
Among the top losers, Malaysian Pacific Industries slipped RM1.02 to RM43.08, Batu Kawan lost 54 sen to RM20.44, Petronas Gas weakened 32 sen to RM17.86, PPB was 26 sen lower at RM10.54 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong gave up 24 sen to RM20.08.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 42.66 points to 12,780.19, the FBM Emas Index erased 56.63 points to 12,838.24, the FBM Top 100 Index weakened 53.38 points to 12,679.93, the FBM Mid 70 Index dropped 152.75 points to 18,352.26, and the FBM ACE Index slid 61.64 points to 4,681.10.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index weakened by 78.49 points to 20,175.82, the Energy Index edged down 0.51 of-a-point to 808.38 and the Plantation Index trimmed 18.19 points to 8,567.24, while the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.12 of-a-point to 200.07.
