KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia was lower at midday, dragged down by selling in selected heavyweights, said an analyst.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.08 points, or 0.12 per cent, to 1,737.69 from Monday’s close of 1,739.77.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said Wall Street is set to trade in a risk-off mode today following the Iranian attack on a tanker in the United Arab Emirates' energy hub and the potential collapse of Iran’s 14-point proposal.

"Hence, we anticipate the spillover effect to occur in the FBM KLCI today," it said in a note today.

The brokerage added that the current elevated oil price environment should continue to bode well for oil and gas counters, benefitting Dialog Group Bhd, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd and Hengyuan Refining Company.

Given the current artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout, Malacca Securities expects sentiment to remain supportive of the data centre theme, favouring YTL Power International Bhd, Ranhill Utilities Bhd and CBH Engineering Holding Bhd.
