Bursa Malaysia Remains Lower At Mid-afternoon On Profit-taking

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory in mid-afternoon, weighed down by continued profit-taking in heavyweight counters, led by the financial services and utilities sectors.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 6.90 points to 1,681.22 from Tuesday’s close of 1,688.12.

The benchmark index had opened 3.30 points higher at 1,691.42

However, market breadth remained positive, with gainers outpacing losers 567 to 447, while 500 counters were unchanged, 1,215 untraded and 13 suspended.

Turnover totalled 2.37 billion units valued at RM1.70 billion.

Among heavyweights, Maybank remained unchanged at RM11.04, Public Bank, CIMB and IHH Healthcare all slipped four sen to RM4.60, RM7.51 and RM8.71, respectively, while Tenaga Nasional dropped 18 sen to RM14.14.

On the most active list, ACE Market-debutant 5E Resources and V.S Industry both edged up one sen each to 27 sen and 19.5 sen, respectively, while MMAG eased half a sen to 3.5 sen. Zetrix AI grew 2.5 sen to 79.5 sen, and AirAsia X  bagged five sen to RM1.24.

Among top gainers, Malaysian Pacific Industries strengthened RM1.32 to RM31.96, Dutch Lady gained 40 sen to RM32.20, Hong Leong Industries notched up 30 sen to RM17.04, Fraser and Neave improved 24 sen to RM30.04, and Malayan Cement rose 23 sen to RM6.83.

Besides Tenaga Nasional, other top losers included Petronas Gas, which fell 40 sen to RM17.86, Petronas Chemicals trimming 27 sen to RM5.63, PPB Group losing 22 sen to RM11.58, and MISC erasing 18 sen to RM8.18.

On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index went up 107.72 points to 17,483.98, the FBM ACE Index was up 28.13 points to 4,495.84, while the FBM Top 100 Index decreased by 18.94 points to 12,232.95, the FBM Emas Index shed 12.88 points to 12,393.37, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 0.84 of a point to 12,311.75.

By sector, the Financial Services Index declined by 35.01 points to 19,637.86, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.81 of a point to 186.84, the Plantation Index fell by 49.58 points to 8,891.20, and the Energy Index slid 3.40 points to 820.13.
