Soh Thian Lai Appointed Chairman Of East Asia Business Council Malaysia — FMM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) today announced that Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has appointed Tan Sri Dr Soh Thian Lai as chairman of the East Asia Business Council (EABC) Malaysia Chapter.

FMM President Jacob Lee Chor Kok said the appointment strengthens Malaysia’s representation in regional engagement across ASEAN Plus Three economies and positions the country to shape regional economic priorities and advance business-driven integration under key frameworks, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

“Businesses face rising geopolitical uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, and cost pressures.

“Strong and coordinated industry input through platforms such as EABC remains essential to support governments in delivering timely and effective policy responses,” he said in a statement today.

EABC was established in 2003 following recommendations by the East Asia Study Group and endorsed by ASEAN Plus Three leaders, serving as the official platform representing industry views in advancing regional economic cooperation across 13 economies comprising ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea.

Each economy nominates three representatives, providing balanced input across the region.

Soh succeeded Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman Emeritus and Honorary Adviser of AmBank Group, who served as the founding chairman of EABC and chairman of EABC Malaysia since 2003.
