SME Corp, Swansea University Sign MoU To Prepare SMEs For Global Markets
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp Malaysia) has formalised a long-term collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Swansea University through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster entrepreneurship development and assist Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in their global expansion.
In a statement issued today, SME Corp Malaysia said the MoU establishes a strategic partnership focusing on several key areas: entrepreneurship development programmes, research and knowledge exchange, mobility and immersion initiatives, market access activities, innovation and technology transfer, as well as SME-related policy studies.
The collaboration also aligns with ongoing efforts to assist Malaysian SMEs in accessing global markets.
The MoU was signed on Dec 16 at Swansea University by SME Corp Malaysia chief executive officer Rizal Nainy and the university’s pro vice-chancellor, Ryan Murphy.
Rizal said the agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to structured, strategic cooperation in entrepreneurship development, knowledge sharing, mobility programmes, and market access initiatives, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and international readiness of local SMEs.
The collaboration demonstrates SME Corp Malaysia's continued commitment to fostering the growth and global expansion of Malaysian SMEs through strategic international partnerships, aligning with the national agenda to build resilient and globally competitive enterprises.
In a related initiative, SME Corp Malaysia and Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (Pernas) successfully conducted a Soft-Landing Programme (SLP) with Swansea University from Dec 10 to 18.
The programme involved nine Malaysian SMEs from the franchise sector and was designed to prepare their leaders for international market entry, using the UK as a strategic gateway for expansion into Europe and the United States.
“The SLP provided participants with exposure to international business practices, including engagement with key decision-makers, understanding global supply chains, and navigating international trading platforms and support ecosystems,” read the statement.
