Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the improvement was driven mainly by the smallholders’ sector, which accounted for 86.5 per cent of output, compared with 13.5 per cent from estates.

"Year-on-year (y-o-y) comparison showed that the production of NR decreased by 22.7 per cent (October 2024: 38,400 tonnes)," he said in a statement today.

DOSM said total NR stocks fell 8.9 per cent to 145,438 tonnes in October from 159,646 tonnes in September. Rubber processors’ factories held 80.1 per cent of the inventories, followed by rubber consumers’ factories (19.8 per cent) and rubber estates (0.1 per cent).

Exports of NR rose 57.8 per cent to 52,932 tonnes in October from 33,549 tonnes in September. China remained the largest market, taking 55.3 per cent of total shipments, followed by Germany (9.4 per cent), the United Arab Emirates (8.7 per cent), the United States (8.0 per cent) and Egypt (2.7 per cent).

Gloves were the leading rubber-based product export, valued at RM1.2 billion in October, up 12.4 per cent from RM1.1 billion a month earlier.

Average monthly prices weakened, with concentrated latex down 1.4 per cent (October: 569.84 sen per kg; September: 577.89 sen per kg) and scrap rubber down 0.7 per cent (October: 600.44 sen per kg; September: 604.53 sen per kg). Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber grades fell between 0.4 per cent and 1.9 per cent.

DOSM said World Bank Commodity Price Data showed Technically Specified Rubber (TSR) 20 down 1.5 per cent to US$1.71 per kg from US$1.74 per kg, while SGP/MYS (Singapore/Malaysia) slipped 4.9 per cent to US$2.00 per kg from US$2.11 per kg.
