Tengku Zafrul Appointed As MIDA Chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Former Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz has been appointed as Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) chairman effective today.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to his two-year appointment as chairman.

“Besides leading MIDA, Tengku Zafrul will also be given additional responsibilities that are currently being defined and will be announced later by the Prime Minister,” it said in a statement today.

Tengku Zafrul, 52, ended his duties leading the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) on Dec 2, 2025, after concluding the maximum six-year tenure or second term as senator.

He was appointed by Anwar to helm MITI on Dec 3, 2022, and had previously served as Finance Minister from March 9, 2020, until his resignation on Nov 9, 2022.

A notable feature of his stint as Finance Minister and then Investment, Trade and Industry Minister is that he served under three prime ministers.
