Bintulu Port Handles Over 80 Pct Of Sarawak’s Import, Export Trade

KUCHING, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Bintulu Port has consistently handled over 80 per cent of Sarawak’s total imports and exports, said Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Abdul Ghani.

He said this underscores Bintulu Port’s pivotal role as an enabler of Sarawak’s economic growth, driving trade, supporting industries and connecting the state to global markets.

“As the global energy landscape transitions towards sustainability, we are preparing to play a pivotal role in emerging sectors such as green hydrogen and renewable energy logistics. These are the new frontiers of growth and Bintulu Port is ready to support them,” he said at the Customer Centric Nite 2025 dinner here today.

Ruslan said that in the first nine months of 2025, Bintulu Port recorded a total cargo throughput of 38.3 million tonnes and 5,649 vessel calls despite temporary challenges such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) maintenance activities and weather disruptions.

“Our vessel turnaround time remains highly competitive -- 27 hours for LNG vessels and 47 hours for non-LNG vessels -- supported by an equipment availability rate of 87 per cent, reflecting our ongoing commitment to operational excellence,” he said.

He noted that the new port operating system and autogate system installations are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Ruslan said that financially, Bintulu Port continues to perform steadily, recording a return on investment of RM41 million, earnings per share of 22.3 sen and operating cash flow of RM117.7 million.

“These fundamentals strengthen our ability to reinvest in infrastructure, digital innovation and talent development, ensuring that we continue to deliver greater value and enhanced service for our partners and customers,” he said.
