Guiyang’s Dual-Wheel Drive: Intelligent Manufacturing Powers A New Industrial Era

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Guiyang is fast-tracking its transformation into an intelligent manufacturing hub under its "Upgrading Industry for City Booming" strategy in the 14th Five-Year Plan.

In 2024, the city’s industrial sector contributed 31.1 per cent to economic growth, with above-scale industrial value-added rising an average 7.5 per cent annually, according to the Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology in a statement.

At the core of this transformation are Guanshanhu District and Qingzhen City, which have formed a "Dual-Wheel Drive" model of innovation. Guanshanhu has built strength in new energy vehicles and digital factories, while Qingzhen is leading the green and high-end revival of traditional industries through aluminium-based new materials.

In Guanshanhu, Geely Auto’s new energy vehicle cluster—joined by over 20 supporting enterprises—has built a complete supply chain spanning batteries, motors, and smart systems, targeting an annual output of 20 billion Chinese yuan by 2025. (100 Chinese yuan = RM58.98)

The district is also home to Zhong An Technology Group’s "5G+AI Digital Twin" factory, Guizhou’s first "Green Factory", which uses robotics and cloud systems to optimise real-time production toward a 5.5 billion Chinese yuan revenue goal.

Nearby, Guiyang Shanju Battery Co Ltd operates one of the world’s most advanced battery lines, producing a pack every two minutes, while the Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park, backed by 1.35 billion Chinese yuan, houses 21 robotics and semiconductor firms.

In Qingzhen, the Wangzhuang Aluminium Deep Processing Park anchors the city’s aluminium-based new materials sector, led by Longshu Light Alloy Technology, which exports solar-powered, aerospace-grade materials to South Korea and Indonesia. The city’s aluminium output surged 38.29 per cent year-on-year in 2024 to 26.5 billion Chinese yuan, accounting for over three-quarters of Guiyang’s total.

Guiyang’s broader sustainability agenda is exemplified by Guizhou Zhenghe Tianzhu Technology, which converts industrial waste into green construction materials with a 1.2 million-tonne annual capacity.

With industrial output surpassing 400 billion Chinese yuan in 2023, Guiyang now ranks 27th nationwide and fourth among western Chinese cities for innovation capacity. Supported by eight national innovation platforms and 36 "little giant" tech firms, the city is emerging as western China’s new powerhouse for smart, green, and high-end manufacturing.
