AEBF 2025 To Unveil ASEAN Plan Of Action For Energy Cooperation 2026-2030

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The upcoming ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2025 will see the unveiling of ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026–2030, the region’s strategic blueprint for guiding energy policies.

AEBF chairman, Dr Andy Tirta said among other things, the document will outline regional energy cooperation plans for the next five years, highlighting the development of ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiatives.

"The AEBF 2025 will be held concurrently with the ASEAN Energy Ministers meeting," he told Bernama after attending Bernama TV's 'The Nation' programme today.

According to Andy, the upcoming AEBF 2025 will also see the signing of an enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the APG that will focus on standardising rules and regulations, aligning technical requirements and establishing a financial model.

In May, it was reported that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had committed US$10 billion (US$1=RM4.19) towards the APG to expedite cross-border connections, national grid projects, and renewable energy initiatives that will facilitate power trade.

At the same time, the World Bank has also allocated US$2.5 billion to support ASEAN green energy projects.

Andy highlighted that the AEBF 2025 will also see in-depth discussions on the trans-ASEAN gas pipeline, along with other ongoing issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation as well as nuclear energy potential.

"We will be covering almost all energy transition issues during the event, and we will also talk about nuclear energy," he added.

To advance discussions on energy transition among business leaders, Andy said the ASEAN Energy Leaders' Talk will be held during the event, involving leaders of private institutions and energy-related businesses.

"They will sit together and discuss current issues related to energy transition, and subsequently give their recommendations from the perspective of industry players for key policymakers' attention," he said.

The AEBF 2025, which is also entering its 25th edition, is scheduled to be held on Oct 15-17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with the theme 'Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity".
