KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Russia is seeking to increase exports of halal-certified meat and dairy products to Malaysia this year as part of its strategy to deepen bilateral trade, particularly in the food and agriculture sectors.
Ministry of Economic Development, Director of the Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects, Nikita Kondratev, said many Russian companies have already received halal accreditation from Malaysian authorities, paving the way for broader market access.
“First of all, because of our cooperation in the halal sphere, you know that many Russian companies have now received accreditation from your agency, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), on halal standards.
“So, maybe this year we will start exporting more meat and dairy products from Russia. These will really have high halal standards,” he told Bernama before attending a bilateral meeting with Investment, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong.
In return, Moscow is keen to import a range of Malaysian products, including electronics and agricultural goods, while also offering to expand its exports of fertilisers and pharmaceutical products to Malaysia, Nikita said.
“We are ready to import from Malaysia. We are interested in various electronic and agricultural products. We are also ready to export more fertilisers for your agriculture, and of course more pharmaceutical products,” he added.
The bilateral meeting between Russia and Malaysia was held on the sidelines of the 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings here today, which included the 14th AEM-Russia Consultation.
