OAG: Kuala Lumpur Tops Asia Pacific Airports, Leading Global Low-Cost Connectivity

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) shines as Asia Pacific’s top airport in OAG’s Megahubs 2025 report, ranking joint fourth globally and holding the title of the world’s leading low-cost carrier (LCC) Megahub.

Joining KUL in the global Top 10 are Seoul Incheon (ICN) at sixth and Tokyo Haneda (HND) at ninth, though Haneda slipped from third place last year. Over the past decade, KUL has increased its destinations served by 22 per cent, while ICN recorded a 58 per cent jump in potential connections since 2015.

“The Asia Pacific region has cemented its reputation as a global powerhouse in aviation, balancing world-class full-service hubs with dynamic low-cost connectivity.

“Kuala Lumpur’s dual success as both a global top hub and the world’s leading low-cost Megahub highlights the region’s unique ability to serve travellers across all segments,” said OAG Head of ASPAC, Mayur Patel in a statement.

According to OAG Megahubs, the definitive ranking of the world’s most connected airports, Asia Pacific’s aviation sector is showing growing strength, with three airports in the global Top 10.

The Asia Pacific region leads in both full-service and low-cost segments. KUL, ICN and HND are the three most internationally connected airports in Asia Pacific, with Singapore Changi (SIN) and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) filling out the top five.

Besides KUL, regional Megahub leaders include Delhi (DEL) in South Asia and Sydney (SYD) in the Southwest Pacific.

Asia Pacific also dominates the LCC Megahubs category, home to 16 of the world’s top 25 low-cost hubs. AirAsia’s 36 per cent flight share at KUL plays a key role, while ICN ranks second, Manila (MNL) third, and Hong Kong (HKG) jumps 20 places to fourth, fuelled by Cathay Pacific’s HK Express.
