PM Anwar Assures LNG Export Operations In Bintulu Unaffected By Security Threat

KUCHING, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his assurance that liquefied natural gas (LNG) export operations in Bintulu remain unaffected despite recent security concerns.

Anwar said there had been no decline in LNG export demand so far, as security control measures had been fully implemented at the strategic area.

“So far, there has been no issue of declining export demand. This is being viewed seriously because the area is very strategic and dangerous should any threat occur.

“When there was a threat, Petronas informed me, and we deployed the police and security forces to take full control of the situation,” he told reporters after attending the Sarawak Keadilan State Leadership Council (MPN) meeting here today.

On Monday, the media reported that the government had ordered all Petronas LNG facilities to tighten security immediately following a threat received by one of its officers in Bintulu, to enable immediate investigation.
