Johor On Track To Record RM2.5 Billion Revenue This Year
ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Johor is on track to achieve a state revenue projection of RM2.5 billion this year, the highest in its history, surpassing previous peak figures of RM1.5 billion to RM1.7 billion recorded between 2015 and 2021.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the target is attainable through ongoing development initiatives, particularly via the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
He noted that state revenue has been steadily rising, consistently reaching RM200 million to RM300 million per year since 2022.
“These achievements are not accidental but the result of meticulous planning, detailed financial management, and coordinated team efforts,” Onn Hafiz said during a question-and-answer session at the State Assembly (DUN) here, responding to queries from four assembly members.
He added that in the second quarter alone, Johor approved investments totalling RM56 billion, placing the state at the top nationally in foreign direct investment.
“Moreover, for the first time in its history, Johor recorded a gross domestic product growth of 6.4 per cent, exceeding the national average and making it the fastest-growing state economy in Malaysia last year,” he said.
Onn Hafiz also announced 42 initiatives benefiting 1.9 million recipients, with a total allocation of RM209 million.
The funds, expected to be disbursed from October, include 25 measures aimed at alleviating the cost of living and 17 initiatives focused on infrastructure development, economic empowerment, and social welfare.
Among them is RM1.72 million allocated to 132 mosques and suraus under the Johor Friday Infaq Programme, which provides food to communities and is inspired and endorsed by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
All 56 state constituencies will receive RM100,000 each to prepare for the Northeast Monsoon, totalling RM5.6 million, along with RM13.7 million to expand the Johor Care Sale programme to 252 locations, benefiting 1.3 million residents.
