PETRA To Boost Clean Power Initiatives For Industrial Users

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) will strengthen initiatives to offer green electricity supply through third-party access to expand the use of clean energy, particularly among the industrial sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of PETRA, said the move would enable more industrial users to gain access to green electricity, thereby helping companies meet their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments. 

He said the implementation of the initiative would be carried out through programmes such as the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (CREAM), as well as rooftop solar initiatives, including the Self-Consumption (SelCo) programme. 

“In addition, the ministry will also identify new green electricity supply initiatives to be implemented under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to spur investment and high-impact economic activities for the country,” he said during the winding up of the 13MP debate in the Dewan Rakyat today. 

Fadillah added that a green electricity interconnection project between Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore will be implemented to channel renewable energy, in line with the vision of the ASEAN Power Grid to establish a resilient, sustainable and interconnected energy market. 

The minister also said that a total of 495 PETRA development projects are currently at various stages of implementation, with 113 projects completed and 256 projects in progress. 

“A total of 123 projects are still in the pre-implementation stage, covering various processes such as design, procurement, land acquisition and Notice of Change (NOC). 

“For the 13MP, PETRA will continue to implement projects that are prioritised by the ministry and state governments,” Fadillah said.
