Bursa Malaysia Stays Mixed At Midafternoon Amid Cautious Sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed mixed at midafternoon on Friday, with renewed buying interest in selected heavyweights recovering their earlier losses, amid cautious sentiment across regional markets.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged up 0.01 of a point to 1,549.0 from Thursday’s close of 1,548.99. The index opened 1.75 points higher at 1,550.74.

However, the broader market was negative, with 468 decliners against 403 gainers, while 459 counters were unchanged, 1,057 untraded and 21 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.20 billion units worth RM1.35 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank was 5.0 sen lower at RM9.75, Public Bank gained 4.0 sen to RM4.34, Tenaga Nasional ticked up 2.0 sen to RM14.04, CIMB remained unchanged at RM6.79, while IHH Healthcare dropped 8.0 sen to RM6.77.

As for the most active stocks, Borneo Oil was flat at half-a-sen, Zetrix AI added 1.5 sen to 99 sen, NEXG improved half-a-sen to 39.5 sen, and Nationgate added 9.0 sen to RM1.76.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index narrowed 8.75 points to 11,608.95, the FBMT 100 Index reduced 10.26 points to 11,381.66, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index went down 26.98 points to 11,611.04.

The FBM 70 Index fell 60.33 points to 16,772.20 while the FBM ACE Index shed 6.85 points to 4,521.17.

By sector, the Financial Services Index climbed 40.10 points to 17,774.69, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.62 of a point to 156.63, the Plantation Index eased 0.88 of a point to 7,434.95, and the Energy Index added 0.16 of a point to 743.67.
