Prasarana, UNGCMYB To Launch Digital Platform To Assist Over 5,000 SMEs

PETALING JAYA, May 16 (Bernama) -- Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will launch a dedicated digital platform, Vendor ESG (environmental, social and governance) Hub, to support over 5,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) Prasarana vendors to access training, tools, and resources.

The digital platform, to be launched this August, is a collaborative effort with the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB).

In a statement, Prasarana chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said the initiative aims to uplift Malaysia’s public transport ecosystem to align with national sustainability goals.

The Prasarana Vendor ESG Hub is the second in Malaysia after Petronas.

“The training will help SMEs build ESG basics, with the capability to produce sustainability reports,” he said at the partnership signing event between Prasarana and UNGCMYB to promote sustainable business practices here today.

Azharuddin said the partnership is part of a continuing process in line with Prasarana’s Sustainability Blueprint launched in December 2023.

“Under our blueprint goals, we aim to reduce carbon emissions by 45 per cent via bus electrification — 250 electric buses, with the first delivery expected at the end of this year.

“We also aim to achieve 100 per cent bus fleet electrification by 2037, increase renewable energy use by 5 per cent — solar electric vehicle (EV) systems, and sponsor 40 solar streetlights in Kampung Kerdas, Gombak,” he said.

As part of its ESG adaptation, the opening of the LRT3 (Shah Alam Line) by the end of this year will be equipped with smart LED lighting that automatically adjusts with sunlight for energy efficiency, and its air-conditioning system will reduce energy use by 32 per cent, Azharuddin said.

It will also have facilities to support solar rooftops in future, he said.
