Malaysia's Internet Traffic Climb Exponentially In 2024 -- MyIX

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Internet traffic climbed exponentially in 2024 as reflected by the Malaysia Internet Exchange’s (MyIX) indicators, recording a 17 per cent year-on-year increase to 2.6 Terabits per second (tbps), an all-time high for the company.

In a statement issued after its 17th annual general meeting (AGM), the company said the surge highlighted the growing reliance on MyIX’s peering infrastructure, driven by businesses, content providers, and consumers in fuelling a conducive environment for Malaysia’s digital economy.

This also reflected MyIX’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-speed, reliable internet access throughout the country, said chairman Chiew Kok Hin.

“The growing dependence on stable, high-speed connectivity reflects the country’s digital transformation journey, where businesses, content providers and consumers are more interconnected than ever, he said.

MyIX was established in 2006 as an initiative under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) with the vision of bridging networks and empowering communities.

Chiew also commended the government for its proactive policies and initiatives that have enabled businesses and the rakyat to embrace digitalisation seamlessly.

He said the government’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, implementing forward-thinking policies and fostering public-private partnerships has been instrumental in driving Malaysia’s digital economy forward.

These efforts continue to improve nationwide connectivity while creating more opportunities for businesses to scale and innovate in an increasingly competitive global landscape,” he said.
