Four Malaysia Airlines Flights To London Affected Due To Heathrow Airport Closure

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) — Four Malaysia Airlines flights from Kuala Lumpur to London have been affected by the power outage at London Heathrow Airport, according to the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).

The airport was closed after a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation resulted in a major power outage.

MAG said Malaysia Airlines flight MH2 that departed on March 20 at 11:37 pm from Kuala Lumpur to London has been diverted to Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport.

The national carrier group said the flight carrying 246 passengers and 17 crew landed safely at 6.19 am Amsterdam local time.

“Passengers are accommodated at hotels near the airport, and some have been transferred on other flights,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, flight MH4 on March 21 carrying 187 passengers and 17 crew will return to Kuala Lumpur and is expected to arrive at 3.30 pm local time today.

Other flights affected were the MH1 and MH3 flights from London to Kuala Lumpur today.

“Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets the inconvenience and disruptions to our passengers’ travel plans.

“Safety remains the number one priority to Malaysia Airlines,” it added.

According to news reports, the London Heathrow airport will be closed until midnight on Friday due to a power outage.
