Brunei Seeks Partnership With Sarawak To Boost Clean Energy Initiatives

KUCHING, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Brunei is eager to explore new partnership opportunities with Sarawak to advance clean energy initiatives.

This aspiration was expressed by Brunei Deputy Minister of Energy Datuk Seri Awang Mohamad Azmi Mohd Hanifah during a courtesy call on Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, here today.

In a statement issued by Dr Hazland’s office, the visit aimed to foster closer ties between Brunei and Sarawak in energy cooperation and environmental sustainability, where both parties emphasised the importance of collaboration to achieve regional energy security and sustainable growth.

“Both sides expressed optimism for a successful and enduring partnership that will contribute to the region's long-term sustainability goals,” the statement said.

It also stated that further dialogues would be held to enhance Brunei-Sarawak ties by sharing the challenges and opportunities in the energy and environmental sectors.

During the meeting, Dr Hazland said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had been the key mover and enabler in the new energy transition, where the state had laid down a comprehensive four-pillar framework to ensure the smooth implementation and development towards net-zero emissions by 2030.

He said Sarawak welcomed the opportunity for deeper collaboration, particularly in areas where the state had made significant strides in green technology and environmental conservation.

The Brunei delegation also toured key energy infrastructure projects in Sarawak to gain insights into the state’s progress in developing clean energy solutions.
