China-ASEAN Mayors Dialogue In Nanning Focuses On Urban Openness, Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Mayors, representatives, and experts from China and ASEAN countries have convened in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to discuss urban openness and cooperation during a dialogue that began on Jan 16.

During the event, discussions revolved around urban openness and economic cooperation, cultural exchanges and integration, as well as urban governance experiences, according to a statement.

Nanning Party Chief, Nong Shengwen emphasised the deep integration of the two regions’ industrial, supply, and value chains.

He highlighted the growing economic ties between China and ASEAN, with bilateral trade rising from over US$600 billion in 2019 to nearly US$1 trillion in 2024. (US$1=RM4.49)

Meanwhile, Vientiane Capital Governor, Atsaphangthong Siphandone stressed the importance of friendship in ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development, advocating for greater openness and collaboration between cities to achieve mutual prosperity.

The "Global Mayors Dialogue -- Nanning", organised by the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is themed "Building a China-ASEAN Community of Friendship: Urban Openness and Cooperation".

The event attracted representatives from ASEAN nations such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
