Johor Polls: Nur Hafiz Pledges To Tackle Youth Exodus In Machap

30/06/2026 06:01 PM

KLUANG, June 30 (Bernama) -- Although electoral roll data shows that the majority of voters in the Machap state constituency are youths and young adults, the reality is that many of them have built their lives away from their hometown.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the seat Nur Hafiz Roslan said this was not merely a matter of labour migration but also reflected broader challenges, including a lack of job opportunities and uneven infrastructure development.

He said inadequate infrastructure and limited employment opportunities were the main reasons for the migration of the younger generation, to the extent that about 60 per cent of the constituency's current resident population comprised senior citizens.

"Based on the electoral roll, those aged between 25 and 45 make up nearly 51 per cent of the total electorate. However, the majority of them now work and live elsewhere, including in Singapore and the Klang Valley," he told Bernama in an interview here.

As such, Nur Hafiz said the PH campaign machinery had intensified its digital campaign through social media to ensure his campaign messages and manifesto pledges reached outstation voters directly.

True to the meaning of his name, which signifies "light", Nur Hafiz said he was determined to bring renewal and hope to Machap by addressing infrastructure shortcomings and improving internet connectivity in the constituency.

"Hafiz comes bearing Nur (light). So, as Nur Hafiz, insya-Allah, I am determined to live up to my name by becoming a catalyst who brings new light to Machap.

He said his focus is to address the people's concerns in the Machap constituency.

He also called on Machap natives living away from home to return and fulfil their civic duty by voting in the Johor state election on July 11.

"Every vote from outstation voters is invaluable in bringing change to our hometown. I hope they can spare some time to return for the sake of their parents and the future of this constituency," he said.

Nur Hafiz is facing Johor Menteri Besar and Machap incumbent Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi of Barisan Nasional in a straight fight.
