KUALA TERENGGANU, June 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 253 people, including five women, were arrested for various drug-related offences during the 'Ops Tapis Khas' (OTK) operation conducted statewide from 26 to 28 June.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said the operation was carried out jointly by the Terengganu Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) to combat drug abuse and trafficking activities.
He said 146 people were arrested for drug abuse, 72 for drug possession, 29 for drug trafficking, and six for outstanding arrest warrants.
"By age category, individuals aged between 41 and 50 recorded the highest number of arrests at 72, followed by those aged 35 to 40 (45 people), 51 to 72 (44 people), 30 to 34 (35 people), 25 to 29 (32 people), and 19 to 24 (25 people).
"During the same operation, police also seized drugs estimated to be worth RM18,044.60. Out of the total arrests, 33 addicts were handed over to AADK for treatment and rehabilitation purposes," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Khairi said the operation demonstrates the continuous commitment of the police and AADK in strengthening cooperation to combat drug abuse.
