Op Taring: Sarawak GOF Scores With Seizures Worth RM15.14 Mln

KUCHING, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) recorded 26 series of successes through Op Taring conducted throughout the state from June 1 to yesterday, with a total seizure value of RM15.14 million.

Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said in the operation, GOF arrested 39 individuals to assist in investigations into various offences.

He said among the major successes recorded were the seizure of various frozen products without permits, embezzlement of diesel as well as untaxed cigarettes and liquor.

“Among the successes include the seizure of frozen products without valid permits around Kuching and Saratok with a seizure value of more than RM1 million for each case.

“In addition, the operation also succeeded in busting several diesel oil embezzlement activities around Samarahan, Sri Aman and Bintulu involving the seizure of 45,770 litres of diesel oil, skid tanks, IBC tanks, oil transfer equipment, vehicles and machinery believed to be used in the activities,” he said in a statement here, today.

Lim said while several raids in Sarikei and Padawan led to the seizure of various types of cigarettes and liquor that had not been tax-approved and in Bau GOF succeeded in detecting an attempt to smuggle frozen meat products without permits.

“The operation also recorded seizures related to logging without permits along with equipment and machinery believed to be used in the activities with a seizure value of RM5.93 million,” he said.

He said all arrests and seizures had been handed over to relevant agencies including the Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN), Sarawak Veterinary Services Department, Sarawak Forest Department and Royal Malaysian Police for further action and investigation.
