JOHOR BAHRU, June 22 (Bernama) -- Four accused consisting of two married couples pleaded not guilty in three separate Magistrate's Courts here today to several charges including injuring their three Indonesian maids in December last year.
The four accused are Muhamad Firdaus Sha'aban and wife, Nurafiqah Nabila Hazhar, both aged 33, as well as Muhamad Hirzihaziq Abulae's, 30, and his wife, Nurfarah Ainna Hazhar, 34.
According to the charge sheet read out before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab, the four were charged with intentionally causing injury to the maid, Yulia Arnida, 34, at a house near Jalan Ledang, Tampoi here, at about 8.30 pm, Dec 22.
They were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code which carries a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, if convicted.
Meanwhile, before Magistrate A Shaarmini, Muhamad Firdaus and his wife pleaded not guilty to the charge of jointly causing injury to another Indonesian maid, Yatina Yusnita.
The couple also pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Tan Chiew King to the charge of intentionally causing injury to another foreign maid, Siti Hajar.
Both acts were allegedly committed at a house near Jalan Delima 2/6, Taman Daya here, between 2 pm and 4 pm, June 11.
Meanwhile, separately in front of Atifah and Chiew King, the couple Muhamad Hirzihaziq and his wife, Nurfarah Ainna also pleaded not guilty to the charge of intimidating Yatina and Siti Hajar with threats of harm.
For all the acts allegedly committed in Kampung Melayu Majidee here, at about 2 pm, June 12, the couple were charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine or both, if convicted.
Meanwhile, Muhamad Firdaus also pleaded not guilty to two other charges read out in front of Atifah Hazimah and Shaarmini for possessing personal travel documents, namely the Indonesian passports belonging to Siti Hajar and Yatina, without reasonable cause and lawful authority.
The act was allegedly committed at the D7 Branch Office, Criminal Investigation Division, Johor Bahru North District Police Headquarters here, at about 7.30 pm, June 13.
The charge, made under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966, carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or a maximum prison sentence of five years or both, if convicted.
The prosecution, which is ongoing in three separate courts, was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Sarah Siti Aisyah Mustapha Kamal, Anis Shafeeqah Mohd Shariffudin and Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman while the four accused were represented by lawyers Kamal Hisham Jaafar and Nurainaa Kamilah Zalizan
The three courts then granted bail to all four accused with Nurfarah Ainna and her husband each being granted bail of RM9,000, while Muhamad Firdaus was granted bail of RM11,500 and his wife was granted bail of RM5,500.
Atifah Hazimah and Chiew King set July 23 as the re-mention date for the submission of documents, while the case before Shaarmini will be re-mentioned on July 2.
