KANGAR, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has called on the people to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, regard work as an act of worship and reject all forms of corruption in building a progressive and prosperous society.
His Royal Highness said a state can only achieve true progress when its people are knowledgeable, possess integrity, uphold civility and remain united.
“A true MADANI progress is not measured solely by physical development, but by the advancement of knowledge, the nobility of character, the strength of culture, the maturity of thought and the integrity of societal values.
“Embrace civilised values in daily life, strengthen unity, pursue knowledge, preserve good manners and carry out responsibilities with accountability,” Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said when opening the state-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration here today.
Also in attendance were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said efforts to strengthen an authentic understanding of Islam based on the Quran and Sunnah should continue, alongside preserving a mature and civilised political culture and empowering the people to become more independent and competitive.
“The development of the ummah must remain a priority encompassing religious, political, economic and social dimensions. Courageous, intelligent and self-reliant values must be nurtured as part of the identity of the people of Perlis so that we can build a better future for generations to come,” said the Ruler.
The Raja of Perlis also urged the people to prepare themselves to face contemporary challenges, including technological advancement, artificial intelligence, social transformation and global economic changes.
“We must not remain mere observers but become initiators of ideas, leaders of change and contributors to progress,” he added.
At the ceremony, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also presented the Perlis Tokoh Maal Hijrah award to Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra (YTSP) board member Datuk Izham Mahmud in recognition of his contributions.
