KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Embassy in Doha organised the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Alumni Gala and Networking event recently, bringing together former participants and representatives from Malaysia and Qatar to celebrate the programme's role in fostering capacity-building and people-to-people ties.
The event, hosted by Ambassador of Malaysia to Qatar, Faizal Razali, underscored the strong and growing cooperation between Malaysia and Qatar in human capital development.
In a statement, the embassy said the MTCP was established in 1980 as Malaysia's contribution to the South-South Cooperation initiative and reflects the country's belief that development is best achieved through the sharing of experiences, knowledge and expertise among developing nations.
“Through the MTCP, Malaysia has been able to share its development journey and provide training, technical advice and capacity-building programmes in areas that are important for national development,” it said.
The embassy noted that Malaysia and Qatar continue to enjoy warm and close bilateral relations underpinned by strong political ties, shared values and growing cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, energy, education, Islamic finance, food security, defence, aviation and people-to-people exchanges.
“The presence of MTCP alumni in Qatar further reflects the depth of this relationship, particularly in capacity-building and human capital development. Malaysia remains committed to further strengthening its partnership with Qatar, including through continued knowledge-sharing, institutional cooperation and practical collaboration for mutual benefit,” it said.
According to the embassy, Malaysia has welcomed officials from various Qatari ministries and agencies under the MTCP, including the Defence Ministry, Interior Ministry-Police Department, Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Qatar Central Bank.
The event also recognised four referees from the Qatar Football Association for their participation in the Malaysia Football Cup in May 2026.
The Guest of Honour was Director of International Cooperation at Qatari Foreign Ministry Sultan bin Ahmed Al Asiri, while distinguished guests included Ambassador of Ghana to Qatar, Mohammed Nurudeen Ismaila, and Ambassador of Gambia to Qatar, Omar Jah, both MTCP alumni.
