KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- Food and parcel delivery riders in the capital now have a dedicated space to rest and access basic amenities through the D’Tebing Recharge Rider facility, introduced as the Kuala Lumpur P-Hailing Hub.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the hub, officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh together with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud, is part of efforts to enhance the well-being of the gig worker community in the capital.

“D’Tebing Recharge Rider provides various facilities for the p-hailing community, including a covered rest area, mobile phone charging stations, a surau, public toilets and a more comfortable and conducive waiting area for orders.

“These facilities are provided to support the well-being of delivery riders, who play an important role in ensuring the smooth functioning of economic activities and the daily lives of city residents,” DBKL said in a statement today, adding that the initiative reflected its continued commitment to providing more inclusive, responsive and user-friendly public facilities to meet the needs of the rider community.

The facility serves not only as a resting space but also as a symbol of recognition for the contribution of the rider community, which plays a vital role in supporting the daily lives of urban residents, it added.

DBKL said the facility serves not only as a resting space but also as a symbol of recognition for the contribution of the rider community, which plays a vital role in supporting the daily lives of urban residents.

“Two D’Tebing Recharge Rider rest units are available 24 hours a day for food and parcel delivery riders to rest or perform prayers, while the mobile phone charging stations operate from 8 am to 11 pm, in line with the operating hours of nearby businesses,” it said, adding that the facilities are strategically located near food and beverage outlets offering Rahmah Menu meals from as low as RM5 to allow riders to cope with economic challenges and daily expenses.

Meanwhile, Hannah said sustainable urban development must take into account the needs of all segments of society, including the gig worker community, which is becoming increasingly significant in today’s urban economic landscape.

“Urban development is not solely focused on providing physical infrastructure but also on ensuring that those who contribute to the smooth functioning of daily city life enjoy facilities that are comfortable, safe and suited to their needs,” she said

The D’Tebing Recharge Rider facility also reflects the commitment of the MADANI Government and DBKL to further strengthen the well-being of the gig worker community through a more inclusive, caring and people-centric urban development approach, she added.
