KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- Educational exchange between Malaysia and China has entered a new chapter with the successful hosting of the 2026 “Study Beijing” Education Fair held in Kuala Lumpur, which attracted about 1,500 students, teachers, and parents.
According to a statement from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission which organised the event last Friday (June 12), the fair served as a platform for nine prominent Beijing-based institutions, such as North China University of Technology, Beihang University, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
Co-organised by the Beijing International Education Exchange Centre and other key partners in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, the event also aimed at highlighting the academic prospects of China’s capital to Malaysian students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Beijing education delegation head Ge Juzhong said Beijing offers world-class disciplines, advanced programmes, a rich cultural environment, well-developed amenities, and a strong study experience for international students.
Ge, who is also a deputy director-general level inspector of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, invited students from Malaysia and across Southeast Asia to further their studies in Beijing.
The fair featured programmes in aerospace, new materials, intelligent manufacturing, electronic and information engineering, economics, and management, as well as art and design.
It also produced several cooperation outcomes, including the signing of four partnership agreements and the offering of 13 scholarship places to Malaysian students.
The Beijing delegation was welcomed by the Federation of Chinese Clan Associations Malaysia President Datuk Ong Hong Seng, Pandamaran State Assemblyman (ADUN) Leong Tuck Chee, and Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua (Persendirian) Klang (Klang Chung Hua Independent High School) board chairman Lee Teng Kee, who expressed support for deeper bilateral education cooperation.
Klang Chung Hua Independent High School was also designated a “Beijing Municipal Partner School” and reached cooperation agreements with China Agricultural University, North China University of Technology, and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
The Beijing education delegation also held talks with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to explore potential academic partnerships.
Following the fair, the delegation was scheduled to visit City University Malaysia and New Era University College for further discussions with management and teaching staff.
Launched in 2007, the “Study Beijing” overseas thematic education fair has been held in multiple countries over the past 19 years as a flagship initiative to promote Beijing’s international education sector, according to the commission.
The commission said Beijing would continue to strengthen educational exchange and cooperation through supporting policies for international students, including initiatives under the pillars of Discover Beijing, Study in Beijing, Integrate into Beijing, and Settle in Beijing.
