BANGKOK, June 15 (Bernama) -- Thailand is well prepared to manage external shocks and global uncertainties despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Monday, welcoming reports of a ceasefire agreement between the United States (US) and Iran.
Speaking at the Government House, Anutin said any breakthrough in West Asia would be a positive development that could help ease global crises and support economic stability.
Thailand has adapted well to disruptions in global supply chains, he said, adding that the government relies on long-term strategic planning rather than reacting to events on a day-to-day basis.
"If an agreement is reached in West Asia, it will be a positive factor that helps alleviate various crises," he told reporters on Monday.
US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that an agreement with Iran had been finalised and said he was authorising the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of a US naval blockade.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said an end to the conflict would benefit both the global economy and Thailand by easing energy prices and reducing economic risks.
"If the war comes to an end, it will be a positive sign for both the global economy and Thailand," he said.
Ekniti said the government would continue to monitor inflationary pressures and the impact of rising costs on households and small businesses, while expressing optimism that improved global conditions could support stronger economic growth than currently projected.
He added that Thailand would proceed with its 200-billion-baht energy transition programme despite expectations of lower oil prices, noting that the country remains heavily dependent on imported oil and natural gas.
"The energy transition remains necessary," he said.
