Three Held For Allegedly Selling, Forging Medical Leave Certificates

KUANTAN, June 15 (Bernama) -- Three individuals, including a woman, were arrested in Pekan today for allegedly selling and forging medical leave certificates following a report lodged by the District Health Office (PKD) on June 10.

Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the suspects, all in their 30s, comprising a mechanic, a workshop owner and a cleaner, were detained at about 3 pm and are believed to have acted as intermediaries in the operation.

In a statement today, he said the PKD had received information from an individual who claimed to have purchased a medical leave certificate from a local man believed to have obtained the document from a government clinic for a fee.

"The certificates were sold for between RM50 and RM200 each. The medical officer whose name appeared on the certificates also confirmed that he had been transferred to another workplace in 2023 and that the stamp used was an old one that is no longer in use," he said.

Mohd Zaidi said the activity was believed to have been carried out in an organised manner, with intermediaries tasked with sourcing customers and managing sales.

Police are now tracking down the main suspect, believed to be a female civil servant attached to a clinic, who allegedly supplied the forged medical leave certificates.

The three suspects will be brought before the Pekan Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a remand application, with the case being investigated under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code.
