MUAR, June 15 (Bernama) -- The country's development and economic progress must be enjoyed comprehensively by all levels of society, especially the people at the grassroots level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the national development agenda should not only focus on large-scale projects or high-tech modernisation, but rather should be felt comprehensively by the community of farmers, fishermen, rice farmers and smallholders.
"This development must be enjoyed by all and guarantee convenience to the people, especially those at the lower level. Who wants to represent? Who wants to voice the views of those below? That's why we have to go down to the ground," he said.
He said this when speaking at a Hi-Tea event with the fishing community, farmers and local residents at Pantai Leka Food Court here today.
Anwar said that although high-tech projects such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation are important for future progress, the welfare and income of the rural community remain the priorities of the MADANI Government.
According to him, the government always pays attention through relevant agencies and authorities to ensure that the social safety net and assistance to target groups can be channelled effectively.
In this regard, the Prime Minister also reminded the Cabinet and all political leaders to always go out into the field to personally listen to the people's grievances and solve their problems effectively.
He said responsible leadership must have the courage to voice the plight of the people at the bottom to ensure that no group is marginalised from the country's modernisation.
