KANGAR, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Perlis State Government is planning to build a motor racing circuit through a collaboration between the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) of Perlis and a private company in the state (ESR Motor) to strengthen the development of the sports sector and boost the state's economic activities.

Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the circuit construction project would be developed in the Chuping Valley Industrial Estate (CVIA) near Padang Besar involving about 33 acres of land which had been approved for implementation.

He said the private company would invest RM20 million for the circuit construction work while the state government would provide the land.

"The implementation of this project is hoped to be a catalyst for the development of the motorsports sector in Perlis as well as opening up opportunities for organising related activities and events in the future.

"In addition, it is expected to stimulate the sports tourism sector, create economic spillovers to the local community and expand the participation of young people in the motorsports sector," he said.

Abu Bakar told reporters after chairing the Special Committee Meeting on the Perlis Integrated Motorsports Hub Proposal at Seri Putra Complex here today.

He said the planned circuit would be equipped with various modern motorsports facilities and have a straight track of about 1.3 kilometres (km).

Abu Bakar said the ground-breaking ceremony for the circuit construction project was expected to be carried out in about two months while it was expected to be completed in about three years after construction work began.
