Egyptian Pharmacy Programme Recognition: MOH Considering Student Eligibility Under Provisions Of Act 371

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) will consider the eligibility of students affected by the recognition status issue of the pharmacy programme at Alexandria University, Egypt, based on the provisions under the Registration of Pharmacist Act 1951 (Act 371).

In a statement today, the MOH said that the interests of the students involved should be given due attention without compromising the professional standards and competencies set for registration and practice of pharmacy in Malaysia.

According to the ministry, the students involved will be contacted immediately to submit their applications.

"An initial assessment of the student's eligibility through the review of academic transcripts and submitted supporting documents will be conducted for further consideration by the Malaysian Pharmacy Board," it said.

According to the MOH, the effort also does not overlook the need to recognise new pharmacy programmes according to the established governance to ensure that only pharmacy programmes that meet the standards are given recognition.

"The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), through Education Malaysia Egypt (EMM) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), will continue to assist and facilitate the application process for the recognition of the pharmacy programme at Alexandria University," it also said.

The MOH explained that since the issue was identified, the ministry has undertaken various efforts, including engagement with stakeholders and university representatives, to enable the programme evaluation process to be carried out.
