KOTA BHARU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (PGA) Southeast Brigade detained 12 individuals and seized 90 cattle and 100 goats suspected of being smuggled from a neighboring country to meet demands for this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha festive season.
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander, SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain, stated that the seizures involved 10 livestock smuggling cases recorded from January 1 until yesterday, with the total value estimated at RM457,200.
"The highest seizure was recorded last April, involving 28 cattle and 100 goats worth RM204,000, which included 13 smuggled cattle worth RM39,000 at Kampung Manan, Bunut Susu, Pasir Mas on April 20.
"This situation indicates that livestock smuggling syndicates remain active and are attempting to exploit the surge in demand ahead of Aidiladha," he said in a statement today.
Commenting further, Ahmad Radzi said that between January 1 and yesterday, Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan (OTWK) recorded 795 cases involving 979 arrests, with the total value of seizures reaching RM45.4 million.
