ALOR SETAR, May 24 (Bernama) -- Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) College has made history on the international stage after securing a total of 32 medals at the World Chefs Championship 2026 (WCC 2026).
The competition, held from May 21 to 23 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, was organised in collaboration with the Malaysia Culinary Masters Association (MCMA).
KEDA general manager Afifah Omar said the institution won 12 gold medals, 19 silver medals and one bronze medal.
“Two of the 12 gold medals were the highest recognition under the Excellent Gold category, placing the institution among the leading contingents throughout the three-day championship.
“The students were tested not only on creativity and taste, but also on precision in both modern and traditional cooking techniques as well as kitchen hygiene,” she said in a statement today.
Afifah said among the competitive categories won were Free Style Cookies, Team Fruit or Vegetable Carving, Thai Modern Main Course, Spaghetti Challenge, Char Kway Teow, traditional dishes such as beef kurma and chicken rendang, as well as beverage preparation, including freestyle teh tarik.
“This platform has clearly helped to sharpen talent and build a high level of self-confidence among KEDA College students, proving the employability of rural graduates in the hospitality and culinary arts sector globally.
“The KEDA management extends its highest appreciation and congratulations to all participants and instructors for their effort, dedication and exceptional fighting spirit in bringing glory to the college and the country on the world stage,” she said.
