Cannes Film Festival's Main Prize, Palme d'Or, Awarded to Cristian Mungiu's 'Fjord'

PARIS, May 24 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) - Romanian director Cristian Mungiu's "Fjord" won the Cannes Film Festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev's "Minotaur" won the Grand Prix, the second most important prize of the festival.

The awards ceremony was broadcast live on BFMTV.

This is Mungiu's second Palme d'Or. He first won the festival's top award in 2007 for his film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days".

Zvyagintsev's "Minotaur" won the second most prestigious award, the Grand Prix. The festival's third-highest award, the Jury Prize, went to German director Valeska Grisebach's "The Dreamed Adventure".

The Camera d'Or went to Rwandan director Marie Clementine Dusabejambo's "Ben'Imana". The Best Actor award went to Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne, who starred in Lucas Dhonta's "The Coward", and the Best Screenplay award went to director Emmanuel Marre for his film "A Man of His Time".

The annual Cannes Film Festival took place in France from May 12 to 23 for the 79th time.
