No Restrictions Yet On Non-Islamic Houses Of Worship In Commercial Areas - Selangor Exco

23/05/2026 11:34 PM

SHAH ALAM, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Selangor State Government has not enforced nor implemented  planning guidelines that bar non-Islamic houses of worship from being built in commercial areas, said State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han.

Ng, who is also the state Special Committee For Non-Islamic Affairs (LIMAS) Co-Chairman, said the review of said guidelines will be carried out by the state government in consultation with religious associations, with a meeting on the matter to be arranged early next month.

“The state government is dedicated to resolving this administrative and technical alignment through constructive dialogue, ensuring that Selangor remains a progressive, fair, and inclusive state for all,” he said in a statement today.

Ng also said no enforcement action will take place while the review is ongoing.

The clarifications were made  to address recent concerns regarding PLANMalaysia Selangor’s guidelines on non-Muslim places of worship, specifically concerning the approval of future applications for non-Muslim places of worship in commercial shoplots.
