LKIM Holds Agro MADANI Sales, Targets RM70,000 In Revenue

PUTRAJAYA, May 22 (Bernama) -- The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) today organised the Agro MADANI Sales (JAM) and Buy Local Shrimp campaign in conjunction with Aidiladha at the LKIM Fishermen’s Market in Pulau Meranti, near here.

The programme, which targets sales of RM70,000, is part of the continued commitment by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) to ensure food supply stability and help ease the cost-of-living burden for the local community ahead of the festive season.

LKIM deputy director-general (Development) Rashima Baharuddin said the programme, based on the concept of direct sales from producers to consumers, offers a variety of kitchen essentials, especially fresh seafood, wet goods and processed agro-food products.

“This platform offers significant savings, ranging from 10 to 30 per cent lower than normal market prices.

“With Aidiladha approaching, demand for key protein sources such as fish, meat and chicken is expected to increase. Through this direct sales platform, we are able to cut out middlemen to offer consumers much lower and fairer prices while also providing better profit margins for our fishermen,” she said in a statement today.

Among the main attractions and special incentives offered during the programme is the Buy Local Shrimp campaign, under which the National Fishermen's Association (NEKMAT) supplied 800 kilogrammes (kg) of fresh Vannamei shrimp (white shrimp), specially brought in from the LKIM Badong Aquaculture Park in Pahang and sold at a promotional price of RM20 per kg.

The programme also featured protein supplies, including more than 1,500kg of fresh fish such as kerapu hybrid, siakap, senangin, bawal mas, jenahak, Q’Fish frozen products, 750kg of shellfish, including cockles and mussels, 600 whole chickens and 500kg of fresh local beef.
