KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) -- Maybank Group’s social impact arm, Maybank Foundation, recently honoured winners of its 9th MyTIGER Values Art Competition and Exhibition (MTVACE) 2026 at Stadium Merdeka, showcasing artworks by 36 students from across the country.
The foundation said MTVACE 2026, which ran from March 9 to April 20, featured categories for primary schools, secondary schools and universities, with winners sharing RM55,500 in cash prizes.
“The initiative provided a platform for students to interpret Maybank’s TIGER values — Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence and Efficiency, as well as Relationship Building — through visual artworks.
“It also aimed to raise awareness of tiger conservation efforts and broader sustainability priorities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” it said in a statement.
The competition, organised in collaboration with KakiSeni, received 3,213 submissions from 341 schools and institutions nationwide, involving participants from primary, secondary and tertiary education levels, including persons with disabilities community, Maybank Foundation said.
The launch of MTVACE 2026 was attended by Maybank chairman Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Maybank chief sustainability officer Datuk Shahril Azuar Jimin, World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia) executive director and chief executive officer Sophia Lim, and members of Maybank Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Maybank’s Board of Directors.
In his opening remarks, Zamzamzairani said MTVACE had grown into a meaningful platform for students and young people to advocate for the conservation of the Malayan tiger.
“Through the power of art and storytelling, we are nurturing a generation that not only values creativity but also understands its role in driving conservation awareness, empathy and collective responsibility for our natural heritage,” he said.
Similarly, Shahril said the programme empowers young creatives to become advocates for a more sustainable and compassionate future, in line with Maybank Group’s ROAR30 strategy and social impact mission to drive positive change across communities.
“The works showcased here reflect the strength of the next generation to lead with empathy, creativity and conviction, while inspiring greater awareness and collective responsibility towards environmental conservation and social progress,” he said.
Among the winners was university category illustration first-prize recipient Amelia Mimie Anak Michael, 26, from TVET Mara Rembau, who said the competition challenged her to view art as a platform for advocacy.
“Interpreting themes such as climate action and integrity through sequential art pushed me creatively and personally, and strengthened my purpose as a visual storyteller who hopes to inspire greater awareness and empathy through my work,” she said.
Primary school first-prize winner 10-year-old Tan Zhi Qi from SJK(C) Foon Yew 1 said she wanted her artwork to show that even children could play a role in protecting nature and the Malayan tiger.
“My drawing is a visual pledge for a more sustainable and caring future, where people work together to protect animals, forests and our shared heritage. Through this competition, I learned that even small actions and ideas can create a big impact, while encouraging more young people to care for the world around us,” she said.
The exhibition, which features drawings, illustrations, photo imaging and sequential art, is open to the public from May 15 to June 7, from 10 am to 5 pm daily at Stadium Merdeka.
