PM Anwar Fulfils Promise, Replies To Nanang’s Letter From Pulau Banggi

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- A handwritten letter from a child in one of Sabah’s most remote islands, who waited hours for the chance to personally hand a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier this month, has now received a heartfelt reply, along with two books to inspire his educational journey.

Anwar had promised to respond to the letter after meeting the boy during a meet-and-greet session with residents of Pulau Banggi on May 9, where the child had personally handed him the note.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the reply letter was delivered by his team, who visited the boy’s home today.

“I had promised to reply to Nanang’s letter from Pulau Banggi, and today my team visited him and his family to deliver it in person,” he said.

Anwar described the letter he received from eight-year-old Nanang, whose real name is Syam Aariz Rayyan Abdullah, as deeply meaningful and reflective of the strong determination of the younger generation in rural areas.

He said that although it was just a simple letter, it carried great significance, as behind the words lay hope, sincerity and the dreams of a young child for the future.

“Letters like this remind me that no matter how remote the place, our children continue to harbour great ambitions to transform their lives through knowledge and education,” he said.

Anwar also offered words of advice, urging Nanang not to let any shortcomings become a barrier to success.

“I leave this message for Nanang: continue to love knowledge, perform your prayers, honour your parents, and never stop learning, no matter the circumstances.

“May the two books I have given serve as companions on your journey to keep reading, thinking and building dreams for your family, religion and country.

“Insya-Allah, Malaysia’s future will continue to shine as long as there are children like Nanang - kind-hearted, diligent in seeking knowledge and filled with great hope for tomorrow,” he said, expressing optimism about the future of the nation’s younger generation.

The brief encounter between Nanang and the Prime Minister showed that a child’s aspirations should never be taken lightly, as the boy had arrived as early as 8 am with his mother to personally hand over the letter.
