18/05/2026 04:54 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia will continue to strengthen its good relations with India for mutual benefit, regional stability and more inclusive prosperity for both countries.

Anwar said the matter was discussed during a farewell courtesy call by India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia B.N. Reddy, who will be ending his service in the country soon.

He said the meeting was used to further strengthen Malaysia-India bilateral ties, which are now at the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting the shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors.

The Prime Minister said the cooperation covers trade, digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), food security, education and people-to-people ties.

“I also touched on the positive development in bilateral trade, which reached USD18.59 billion in 2025, maintaining India as Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said cooperation in digital and emerging technologies has also shown encouraging progress through the inaugural Malaysia-India Digital Council (MIDC) meeting and the MY-India AI Conclave held in the capital recently.
