KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao has admitted that he has indeed been absent from training due to personal problems.
“I did miss training, but I don’t want to comment much on this matter,” he told reporters after a court test session for the Malaysia Masters 2026 at Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil, here today.
According to media reports, Jun Hao has been issued a final warning by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) over disciplinary problems.
BAM Performance Committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei was reported to have said that the 26-year-old risks being dropped from the national squad if he fails to change his attitude.
Jun Hao, the world No. 25, said his focus now is to improve his performance and deliver his best on home soil at the Malaysia Masters.
Jun Hao is expected to face a qualifier in the Super 500 tournament, which begins tomorrow and runs until May 24.
The Kuala Lumpur-born player has been struggling with inconsistent form, having exited in the early rounds of five tournaments he has competed in this year.
He also lost all three of his matches while leading Malaysia’s singles challenge at the 2026 Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark, recently.
