SHAH ALAM, May 13 (Bernama) -- A man was killed after he was believed to have been struck by a vehicle and thrown into a two-metre-deep drain along Jalan Kapar, Batu 5, Klang, early today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received a call on the incident at 3.23 am.
“Seven officers and personnel in one fire engine from the Kapar station were dispatched to the scene,” he said in a statement.
He said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ministry of Health personnel.
Meanwhile, Klang Utara Police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao said the victim, believed to be a Bangladeshi national, was struck by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in a hit-and-run incident at about 3 am.
“Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred when a black SUV travelling from Klang towards Kapar is believed to have lost control before hitting a pedestrian on the roadside.
“As a result of the impact, the man was thrown into a drain, while the driver fled the scene. The victim was later confirmed dead at the scene due to severe abdominal injuries,” he said in a statement.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and urged those with information on the incident to contact investigating officer Traffic Insp Ahmad Fadzli Abdullah at 017-5843860 or report to the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
