MARAN, May 12 (Bernama) -- Maran Health Clinic (KK Maran) will be upgraded from a Type Four Health Clinic to a Type Three facility with 24-hour emergency services to better meet the needs of residents in the district.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the upgraded clinic will also have six observation ward beds and an Emergency Birthing Centre (EBC).
“We will strengthen these services... although it is not a hospital, the clinic will provide the healthcare services needed by the people of Maran,” he told reporters after a working visit to the clinic today.
He said the move is part of efforts to strengthen the role of health clinics as the backbone of the primary healthcare system.
“For me, clinic services are key to healthcare, particularly in preventive, promotive and predictive care,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Dzulkefly said the proposed RM350 million Maran Hospital project will not proceed for now following an assessment of the current situation and utilisation of existing healthcare facilities.
He said Maran already has Jengka Hospital, which records a bed occupancy rate (BOR) of about 57 per cent, while Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh has a BOR of 63 per cent.
“From the utilisation aspect, it has not yet reached a stage that requires us to build a new hospital,” he said, adding that Maran currently has 35 rural clinics and 10 health clinics.
