Japan To Urgently Develop Cybersecurity Measures Due To Threats From Advanced AI Models

TOKYO, May 12 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has instructed responsible agencies to urgently develop a package of measures to protect the country's critical infrastructure amid growing cyberthreats from advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

"With the increasing capabilities of advanced AI models, the prime minister has instructed the government to urgently specify and implement measures to ensure cybersecurity across the entire government, both in terms of the response of critical infrastructure operators and in terms of identifying and eliminating vulnerabilities," Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kei Sato said at a briefing.

He noted that the use of advanced AI models for malicious purposes could dramatically increase the speed and scale of cyberattacks, which is an urgent issue.

The package of measures is expected to be developed jointly with the ruling coalition and relevant ministries under the leadership of Digital Development Minister Hisashi Matsumoto.
