MPO To Take Families On ‘Incredible Musical Voyage’ on May 23

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will host an adventurous musical journey for families themed ‘The Incredible Voyage of Alasdair Malloy’ on May 23 at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS.

The MPO said in a statement today that the concert, scheduled for 2.30 pm, is part of its ongoing initiative to nurture an appreciation for classical music among young audiences through engaging themes and an interactive approach.

“Early exposure to music not only provides children with better cognitive development but allows family bonding as parents and their kids come together to enjoy an afternoon of great music intertwined with storytelling and packed with humour,” it said. 

Acclaimed presenter Alasdair Malloy, a favourite among Malaysian audiences and a frequent collaborator with the MPO for its family series, will return for the performance, which will be led by conductor Jebat Arjuna Kee.

The performance will take the audience on an adventurous journey from Scotland to Kuala Lumpur through familiar and popular compositions that connect with a particular kind of transport, interspersed with introductions of orchestral sectional sections and fun interactions.

The one-hour programme will feature classical pieces including Ponchielli’s ‘The Dance of the Hours’ (depicting a very frantic-sounding morning); Grieg’s ‘Morning’ (based on a Norwegian folktale); White’s light-hearted ‘Puffin Billy’; Bennet’s elegant ‘The Orient Express’ (capturing the essence of speed); Saint-Saens’ ‘Carnival of the Animals’; and Rossini’s ‘William Tell: Gallop’ (based on a famous opera). 

"Also included are excerpts from soundtracks of movies such as ‘Star Wars’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Moana’," MPO said.

Tickets are priced between RM99 and RM249, with suite seats available at RM299 and RM349.
