Tabelog Multilingual App Surpasses 2 Million Downloads Among International Travellers

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- Tabelog, a Japanese restaurant search and reservation service platform operated by Kakaku.com Inc, has announced that its multilingual smartphone app (iOS/Android) for travellers visiting Japan has reached two million downloads.

The app also ranked first in downloads among restaurant search apps in Japan for international travellers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and the United States, reflecting strong adoption among global users.

International visitors to Japan have traditionally faced two key challenges, namely an information gap in identifying authentic local dining spots and a language barrier, with many restaurants only accepting phone reservations in Japanese.

Tabelog addresses these challenges through its multilingual platform, which leverages a large database of reviews and photos from local diners in Japan to help users discover popular restaurants frequented by locals.

According to a statement, the app enables instant reservations in English, Traditional Chinese and Korean, allowing users to “Eat Where Locals Eat” and access a seamless dining experience.

It also highlights highly rated restaurants based on local reviews, helping travellers move beyond typical tourist recommendations and experience authentic dining environments.

In addition, the platform enables users to make reservations in seconds with instant confirmation, reducing friction in booking and improving accessibility for international travellers.

The app also features tools such as "Save Lists" and ranking by "Most Reserved by Locals", designed to simplify restaurant discovery and improve user navigation.

Looking ahead, Tabelog said it remains focused on enhancing its platform and expanding its reach to further support international travellers exploring Japan’s dining scene.
