MADINAH, May 10  (Bernama) -- Less than a year after solemnising their marriage, a newlywed couple from Melaka have embarked on a journey many Muslims dream of,  not to a romantic holiday destination, but to the Holy Land as dhuyufurrahman, or guests of Allah.

While many couples their age are busy planning honeymoon getaways, Wan Amirah Zakirah Wan Azman, 27, and her husband, Nur Fakhri Nur Fazil, 28, chose to begin the early chapter of their married life by answering the call to perform the haj during the 1447H/2026M haj season.

For the couple, who tied the knot in July last year, the opportunity to perform haj together is not only a blessing but also the most meaningful honeymoon gift they could have hoped for.

Wan Amirah said she never imagined that she and her husband would be among the youngest newlyweds in their circle of friends to experience the pilgrimage together.

“If people ask where we went for our honeymoon, our answer may be different from other couples...we came to the Holy Land.

“For me, this is not just a journey of worship, but the beginning of a marriage that Allah has gifted most beautifully,” she said when met recently.

According to Wan Amirah, their relationship began in 2020 after they were introduced through a mutual friend, before their friendship gradually developed into something more serious.

“We started as ordinary friends and slowly got to know each other better.

“Alhamdulillah, both families gave their blessings. We got engaged at the end of 2024 before getting married in July last year,” she said, adding that shortly after becoming husband and wife, they received the joyful news that they had been selected to perform haj together this year.

Making the experience even more meaningful, the pilgrimage is also being shared with her two younger brothers, Wan Amirul Zulfadhli, 26, and Wan Amirul Zulkarnain, 24.

Wan Amirah said her dream of visiting the Holy Land began during childhood when her mother opened haj savings accounts for her and her siblings in 2009.

“At that time, I was still young and did not really understand what haj meant. My mother managed everything through monthly salary deductions.

“When I started working, I continued saving on my own because the dream of coming here had already been instilled in me since childhood,” she said.

She added that watching her grandmother and parents perform haj previously also inspired her determination to continue saving for the pilgrimage.

“I always loved watching people being sent off at the airport and listening to their stories after returning from haj.

“When I was finally able to come here with my husband soon after getting married, it truly felt like Allah had beautifully arranged our journey in life,” she said.

Wan Amirah shared that throughout their time in the Holy Land, they learned to understand each other better through patience, sacrifice, perseverance and prayer.

“We hope that when we return home, this haj journey will become the best beginning for our marriage...to become a husband and wife who are more patient, more understanding, closer to Allah, and blessed with righteous children,” she said.
