GEORGE TOWN, May 9 (Bernama) -- The People's Progressive Party (PPP) will submit its party blueprint to Barisan Nasional (BN) next week, covering seven main pillars including green governance, economic security, affordable cost of living, and food security.
PPP president Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan, said that the blueprint was prepared at the request of the BN leadership during the coalition's retreat last February and is currently in the final stages of discussion.
Speaking to reporters after attending the party’s Supreme Council Meeting in Batu Ferringhi today, Loga Bala said that the BN leadership had requested PPP to submit a blueprint within three months during that retreat.
He added that the blueprint is now complete and discussed in today's PPP meeting; if no amendments are made, it will be handed over to BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi next week.
Loga Bala added that other matters contained within the blueprint include a reliance on the agro-food sector to meet nutritional needs, as well as education as a catalyst for improving living standards and equality.
PPP was a component party of BN since 1974, but a previous leadership struggle led to the party’s deregistration, resulting in its departure from the coalition.
However, earlier this year, Ahmad Zahid confirmed that the party, established in 1953, has returned as one of BN’s component parties.
According to Loga Bala, PPP currently has approximately 320,000 members nationwide, with nearly 47 percent consisting of young people.
The party is also introducing various programmes to attract more youth participation in politics and party activities.
